Phase3D, a company vested in-situ inspection technology, unveils Fringe Qualification, an addition to its Fringe Inspection product suite that helps enhance real-time production-scale quality control for additive manufacturingn (AM). This tool enables manufacturers to certify and control AM builds in real time across the entire fleet of machines.

Fringe Qualification introduces automated, layer-by-layer inspection capabilities across multiple machines, designed to ensure part quality at scale. This advanced system integrates with Phase3D’s existing Fringe Operator visualization and inspection software, creating a solution for build certification.

“With Fringe Qualification, we’re transforming how manufacturers approach quality control in additive manufacturing,” says Niall O'Dowd, founder and CEO of Phase3D. “Our customers can now certify builds layer by layer, reducing post-processing costs and enabling faster delivery of critical parts.”

Key features of Fringe Qualification include:

  • Real-time inspection across multiple machines: Monitor and manage quality control for an entire fleet from a centralized dashboard.
  • Automated quality checks using historical build data: Optimizes precision by applying data-driven parameters.
  • Instant out-of-specification alerts: Enables immediate action on any irregularities.
  • Detailed build reports: Provides comprehensive quality documentation tailored to industry needs.

Fringe Qualification leverages structured light fringe projection technology to create micron-level heightmaps of each layer. This objective data—captured by Phase3D’s Fringe Inspection system—provides metrics for real-time decision-making.

“Fringe Qualification represents the next evolution in additive manufacturing quality control,” says Ben Ferrar, chief operating officer and chair of the Board at Phase3D. “By enabling real-time production control across multiple machines, we’re empowering manufacturers to achieve consistent quality, every time.”
